GUATEMALA

I arrived in this country by driving from Mexico. Crossing into “Guate” felt like entering a land both untamed and fertile. I discovered cultures clothed in colors as vibrant as the trees, wild and steadfast in their traditions. I watched farmers offering corn and fruit upon church altars, witnessed the sacrifice of a chicken before a sacred rock to seek better times, and saw a healer reading the flames. I wandered through temples overflowing with flowers and watched women light candles and pray with fervor, their babies cradled on their backs, hearts tied to generations past and present.
